Tata-Aldesa, a JV between Tata Projects India and
Aldesa of Spain has secured major contract worth
Rs. 3, 300 crore in the Railways Sector. The company
has secured the contract from Dedicated Freight Corridor
Corporation of India (DFCCIL) for construction of a 343-km
double track line between Bhaupur (Kanpur) and Khurja.
The design-build lumpsum contract is a part of 1,800-km
eastern corridor, from Ludhiana in Punjab till Dankuni in
West Bengal. According to RK Gupta, MD, DFCCIL, the
contract is unique as it is a World Bank-funded project that
requires execution of the work within a specific time frame.
In all, the Railways sector has witnessed five contracts worth
Rs. 4,130 crore. Of which another significant contract is
bagged by ITD Cementation India in JV with Italian-Thai
Development Public Company from Delhi Metro Rail
Corporation. The scope of work includes construction of a in the sector.
In Hydel based power
sector BHEL has secured a noteworthy
contract worth Rs. 750 crore from
Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project
Authority (MHPA), Royal Government of
Bhutan for manufacture, supply,
erection and commissioning of the
electro-mechanical equipment for the
electro-mechanical equipment package
for a 720 MW (4x170 MW) Mangdechhu
Hydroelectric project in Bhutan. The
value of the contract is Nu 5.9 billion
(approx Rs. 594 crore) plus balance of plant
on cost plus basis, with which, the total
contract value will be in the range of
Rs. 730 to Rs. 750 crore. For the contract, four
turbines and generators of 170 MW each
and associated equipment will be
manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s
Bhopal facility while the control system
will be manufactured and supplied by
the company’s Electronic Division at
Bangalore. This apart MHPA has
awarded another contract worth Nu 5.5
billion (approx Rs. 550 crore) to Kalptaru
Power Transmission Line (KPTL) to
construct the 400 kV double corridor
transmission lines between Mangdechu
porthead yard and Jigmeling in Gelephu,
which is about 85 km. The project is
being set up under a bilateral
agreement between the Indian
Government and the Royal Government
of Bhutan.
AK Mishra, M D, MHPA said, “They were
expecting an additional Nu 1.5B budget
for the project, over a span of three
months, starting this month after which
the existing dues payable to Bhutanese
contractors would be paid.” He also expressed that,
“Awarding the supply and procurement of equipment for
the project to BHEL was the cheapest option. Otherwise
we’ll have to tender out work for each purchase, which
would have become costlier and taken time, in terms of
coordination and finalization, etc.”
In the Power Distribution Sector another noteworthy
contract was bagged by KEC International worth Rs. 602 crore
from Bahwan Engineering Company LLC for design, supply
and erection of 400 kV transmission line from Sur to Izki grid
station on Turnkey basis in Oman.
During January 2013, 46 contracts worth Rs. 11,031 crore were
bagged by several companies in various business
segments. Of the total, eight contracts are overseas
contracts worth Rs. 2,652, crore in Bhutan, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman and USA. 9,035 mtrs long elevated metro track along with eight
elevated stations for Delhi Metro Rail Project - Phase III. This
will also include architectural finishing, water supply,
sanitary installation and drainage works.
During the month Railways sector witnessed five contracts
worth Rs 2,215 crore, Roadways witnessed four contracts
worth Rs 1,558 crore, Power Distribution witnessed five
contracts worth Rs 1,442 crore and many more
