The Unit I of 726 MW (2x363 MW) gas based thermal power project at Palatana in Gomati district of Tripura has begun power generation on 23 October 2012.
ONGC-Tripura Power Company has started generation and 40 MW to 50 MW power is being generated since 23 October. A 400-kV high transmission power line has been drawn up to Silchar in Assam from the plant to connect with Bongaigaon national grid. The plant is reportedly ready to supply power from the Unit I of the project. Now it would depend on the NERLDC (North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre) to distribute power among the northeastern states. Power generation from the Unit II is expected to commence by this December 2012.
The power project is owned by ONGC, Tripura government and Infrastructure Leasing and financial service (IL&FS) company.
