Work on Pedder Road flyover project is likely to commence as the preliminary digging work is expected to commence in November 2012.
The MSRDC project has received in-principal approval from the Mumbai traffic police. Formal approval for the project is expected to come soon. Initially, the MSRDC's technical team will dig pilling holes at 22 places along Pedder Road and collect soil samples. The piles will be dug at every kilometre of the stretch, on either side of the road. The work is expected to be completed by the second week of November 2012.
The proposed flyover, 4.1 km long, will start in front of Lala Lajpatrai College near Haji Ali and end at Tambe chowk, the intersection of Babulnath Road and Marine Drive. It will have 100 pillars, 32 less than in MSRDC's original plan.
The project has been opposed by the area's residents, including singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
