Railway electrification project to reach North East soon

The Indian Railways (IR) is likely to complete electrification project in North East region during the 12th five year plan.

 

The IR will complete the electrification work between Barauni (Bihar) -New Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) -Guwahati during 12th five year plan. Currently, work is underway on electrification of Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh) -Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh)-Barauni-New Jalpaiguri route. The electrification of New Jalpaiguri-New Bongaigaon (Assam) -Guwahati rail line is a sanctioned work and is a part of Barauni- Katihar (Bihar)-Guwahati, including Katihar-Barsoi, railway electrification project, for which adequate budget provisions have been kept during 2011-12.
