Reliance Industries commissions second phase of Para-xylene at Jamnagar

Reliance Industries (RIL) has commissioned the second and final phase of the Para-xylene (PX) plant consisting of PX Crystallizers trains, Trans-alkylation and Aromatic Extraction units at Jamnagar, in Gujarat.
As part of the second phase, Train 2 was commissioned earlier in April 2017, and Train 3 is at an advanced stage of commissioning and will commence production later in the first quarter of FY 2018.
The plant has been constructed with crystallization technology from BP which is highly energy efficient. With the commissioning of this plant, the company’s PX capacity will be more than double. Reliance will emerge as the world’s second largest producer of PX, with around 11 percent of global production.
The company completed installation of its cracker and downstream projects at Jamnagar, in the fourth quarter of FY 2017, and the pre-commissioning and start-up activities are underway. The project comprises 1.5 million tpa ethylene cracker along with downstream facilities for producing LDPE, LLDPE and MEG.
The installation and mechanical completion of the company’s gasification project integrated to the DTA refinery was completed in the fourth quarter of FY 2017, and the pre-commissioning and start-up activities are underway. Also, the installation and mechanical completion for gasification, linked to the company’s SEZ refinery, has been achieved and the pre-commissioning activities are expected to begin in the second quarter of FY 2018.
