Alstom to commission new US plant
25 June 2010: Alstom is likely to commission its new $300-million (approx Rs 1,380 crore), turbine facility on the banks of the Tennessee.
The 3,50,000 sq ft , green turbine factory will produce steam and gas turbines for nuclear and coal plants, it will retrofit old plants for greater energy efficiency and meet the demand for new nuclear plants.
From the Chattanooga site, Alstom can reach 80 per cent of all US nuclear power plants by barge. The facility is designed to build the world's largest steam and gas turbines for power plants as well as to retrofit existing facilities.
