Chengdu terminal commences operation
17 May 2010: Chengdu railway container terminal has started operation after a month's trial run in China.
The facility, created at an investment of over $110 million (approx Rs 484 crore), is spread over more than 140 ha, covering 8.4 km from east to the west and 850 mtrs from south to north. The capacity is estimated at 8.4 million tonne, to be stepped up to 13.7 million tonne in due course and to 26.3 million tonne ultimately. The terminal is connected to the country's 55 railway hubs including Beijing and Guangzhou. The connectivity by road too is being established through the upgrade of the expressway linking Chengdu with Nanchong.
