China to spend on water projects in Tibet

18 August 2011: The Chinese government has planned to spend more than $1.8 billion (approx Rs 5850 crore) till 2015 on water projects in Tibet.

The capital will be spent on 16 categories of water programmes that cover irrigation, drinking water, flood prevention and control and hydropower. These water projects will enable all Tibetan farmers and herders to get access to clean drinking water while more than 90per cent of the region's rural population will have access to electricity.
