China, Tanzania in pact to build natural gas pipeline in Africa

19 September 2011: China and Tanzania plans to sign a deal to build a natural gas pipeline from the southern part of the east African country to its commercial capital.

China is expected to loan $1.06 billion (approx Rs 5,035 crore) to Tanzania to build pipeline from Mtwara to Dar es Salaam.The agreement will be signed soon.The project will be carried out by the China Petroleum and Technology Development Company (CPTDC) a unit of China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) , and state-run Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation. The project is expected to start in December 2012.
