Effluent water from pollution control plant to be used for irrigation
22 August 2011: Innisfil in Canada is likely to pipe effluent water from its Alcona pollution control plant to Big Cedar Golf course to be used for irrigation.
City Council has granted permission for staff to apply for about $205,000 in funding through the provincial government's Showcasing Water Innovation program. The money will be used as part of the Lakeshore Water Pollution Control Plant expansion to run piping between the control plant and golf course, and construct a truck loading station.
The effluent water collected by the plant will be reused by Big Cedar Golf Course. The province wants municipalities to reduce water consumption by using creative solutions. The plan will also fit the objectives of a Water Conservation and Efficiency Strategy.
