GM plans first electric motor plant in US
20 May 2011: The General Motors Company (GM) plans to build an electric motor plant near Baltimore, Maryland, the first such plant dedicated to making key components for electric vehicles in the US, Xinhua reported. The plant is scheduled to open in 2013. GM has dedicated $269.5 million (approx Rs 1,210 crore) to the building of the plant. It will be powered in part by a 1.23-MW rooftop solar array, which is expected to generate nine per cent of its annual energy consumption.
