Germany's Tognum plans engineering centre in Pune

13 February 2010: The Tognum Group, manufacturer of engines and propulsion systems and distributed energy systems under the MTU brand, is planning to set up an engineering and research centre in Pune in Maharashtra.

The group is likely to invest Euro 1 million (approx Rs 6.31 crore) to set up a consolidated sales, training, after sales and overhaul centre in Pune, while investments in the engineering centre will be separate.

The group is also stepping up its all-India presence by appointing additional packagers for its engines for power generation applications. It is likely to add two more OEMs, BroadCrown in Delhi and Jeevan Diesel in Bangalore to the existing two, Sterling Generators and Exel Generators. Two new service centres, catering mainly to the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard, at Vishakapatnam on the eastern coast and either at Mangalore or Dharwad on the western coast, will also be set up. The west coast location will be decided by the Navy and Coast Guard.
