Nexans bags oreder for power umbilical contract for Chevron-operated Jack and St. Malo fields in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico

05 Nov 2011: Nexans, a worldwide leading expert in the cable industry, has bagged an order by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to design, manufacture and supply a total of 138,000 ft (42km) of power umbilicals and terminations for the Jack and St. Malo fields in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The umbilicals shall be loaded out from the new long-term storage carousel in Mobile, Alabama dedicated to providing enhanced logistical support for customers in the Gulf of Mexico region.

The Jack and St. Malo fields are located within 25 miles (40 km) of each other approximately 280 miles (450 km) south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water depths of 7,000 feet (2,100 m). The project will comprise three subsea centers tied back to a hub production facility with a capacity of 170,000 barrels of oil and 42.5 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Nexans will design and manufacture the power umbilical for the Jack and St. Malo fields in two separate lengths, together with the associated umbilical termination heads (UTHs). On completion, the power umbilicals will be delivered to the newly constructed carousel at the Theodore Industrial Port in Mobile, Alabama in 2013, where they will be held in storage until called-off by Chevron for installation.
