Raisio acquires Big Bear Group
9 February 2011: The Big Bear Group, a sugar puffs and poppets maker has been acquired by Finland based Raisio in a Pound 80 million (approx Rs 580 crore) deal less than a year after it acquired snacks and confectionery maker Glisten.
The business will be integrated into Raisio’s Western European brand operations. Raisio owns the cholesterol-busting Benecol brand.
Big Bear, which has two factories in Leicester and London, was created in 2003 by Mario Giannotta, John Jackson, and Paul Wilkinson through the acquisition of Fox’s Confectionery from Northern Foods. It went on to acquire Sugar Puffs and Harvest Chewee cereal bars from PepsiCo in 2006.
