Russia to set up nuclear park in West Bengal

8 December 2009: The Russia Government is reportedly to set up a nuclear park in Haripur, West Bengal, which is to generate 6,000 to 10,000 MW of electricity.

India was looking at setting up similar nuclear parks in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

At Koodankulam, Tamil Nadu, where Russia has already built two 1,000 MW reactors, four more are likely to be added to make it the first nuclear complex in India to have been built by another nation.

The parks will be in addition to the indigenous plants of 700 MW capacity that India has been building.
