SHH to construct schools in Honduras

31 January 2012: The Students Helping Honduras (SHH) is planning to open new schools for creating a more suitable learning environment. Honduras, meaning "depths" in Spanish, was named after Christopher Columbus who arrived in Latin America in 1502 and saw the deep waters off the Caribbean coast.

SHH provides volunteer opportunities for students and adults in hopes of ending the extreme poverty that exists in Honduras. In the short five years of the organization's existence, they have already accomplished a great deal of work, including building six new schools, helping with the creation of a sustainable village for 44 families formerly part of a large shantytown and the inauguration of the Children's Home which provides a safe shelter for kids who once lived on the streets. The overarching goal of the organization is to eventually build and rebuild 1,000 schools.
