Siemens AG receives train order from Russia

20 December 2011: Germany's Siemens AG has received a new order from Russia's railway operator for high speed trains worth (euro) 600 million ($780 million).

The contract foresees the delivery of eight Velaro RUS high speed trains to Russia's railway operator RZD starting in 2014, including a 30-year maintenance agreement. The trains, with 10 carriages each, will be shuttling between Moscow and St. Petersburg to meet increasing demand on the popular high speed link. The trains will carry up to 600 passengers each and travel at a speed of up to 250 km per hour (155 miles per hour).
