Spicer India to set up new gear plant

6 February 2010: Spicer India, a JV company of Dana Holding Corporation, US, and Anand Automotive Systems, is planning to set up a plant to manufacture hypoid gears and a testing centre at its facility at Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra.

The greenfield plant with an installed capacity to produce 2.4 lakh gear-sets per annum is likely to become operational in May 2011.

According to sources, India based OEMs are demanding improved efficiency, power density, fuel economy, torque-carrying capacity, and weight reduction. Dana has developed the AdvanTEK series of axles to meet these requirements, and the company will now manufacture them in India.
