Tata International plans manufacturing units in Ethiopia
25 April 2011: Tata International, the global marketing arm of the Tata Group, proposes to set up tannery and leather goods manufacturing facilities in Ethiopia.
The company plans to make Ethiopia its first processing and manufacturing hub outside India. Presently, it has leather processing and manufacturing facilities in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, the company has reached the final stage of completing capacity expansion projects, involving Rs 56 crore, at its units in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. On completion, the company’s total finished leather production capacity at these two units, including upholstery products, is likely to be six million sq ft per month from the current four million sq ft per month.
