Wal-Mart mulls expansion

25 April 2011: The Acuenta chain in Chile is likely to expand under Wal-Marts investment plans.

Wal-Mart Stores has lined up plans to expand its network in Chile, the US retail giant has confirmed. The company plans to invest about $300 million (approx Rs 1,350 crore) in its Chile based business in 2011. As of end-March 2011, Wal-Mart had 282 retail units in Chile, including 121 Ekono supermarkets, 38 Acuenta stores, 53 Lider Express outlets and 68 Lider Hiper stores.
