Finance Ministry seeks approval for additional expenditure

16 November 2010: The Union Ministry of Finance has put up a proposal for the second batch of Supplementary demand for grants for 2010-11 involving an additional expenditure of Rs 44,945.52 crore. This additional expenditure includes a net cash outgo of Rs 19,812.37 crore. The balance is being met out of savings from departments/ministries.

The main items of expenditure involving cash outgo includes fertiliser subsidy (Rs 5,000 crore), pension and terminal benefits for employees of telecom department including those absorbed in BSNL (Rs 1,200 crore), food subsidy and payment to Food Corporation of India (Rs 5,000 crore), providing assistance to Pakistan for flood relief (Rs 115 crore), police (Rs 2,000 crore), repair and maintenance of national highways (Rs 1,000 crore) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Rs 3,000 crore).

The proposal involving net cash outgo will not result in any significant variation in deficit projected in Budget estimates 2010-11, the Government has said. The Centre aims to limit fiscal deficit to 5.5 per cent of GDP in 2010-11.
