BSES unveils solar-powered water pumping system
31 January 2012: In an eco-friendly initiative, BSES has come out with a solar-powered water pumping system, aimed at cutting down on consumption of electricity. Renewal Energy Assisted Pump (REAP), claimed to be first of its kind in the country, has been developed by BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, a subsidiary of BSES, in collaboration with IIT Delhi.
A complete REAP system including the solar panels has been priced at Rs 4 lakh and a consumer can place an order for its installation through BSES' call centre. So far, 250 consumers of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd have shown interest in buying the REAP system, which was unveiled by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit last week. The BSES had signed an MoU with IIT-Delhi in July 2010 for the collaborative project which is among the first industry-institute initiative between a power distribution company and a premier engineering institute.
