Funds for setting up 22 new polytechnics
26 February 2010: The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has sanctioned financial assistance to the Orissa Government for setting up 22 new government polytechnic institutes.
The ministry has sanctioned Rs 12.30 crore per each polytechnic and the funds would be released in instalments based on the performance. Of the total, Rs 8 crore will be spent on civil works and Rs 4.30 crore will be spent on equipment, furniture and learning resource materials. The state government is likely to establish these institutes in districts including Gajapati, Boudh, Sambalpur, Malkanagiri, Nawrangpur, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Sonepur in three phases.
Besides, Union Labour and Employment Ministry had made provisional allocation of 91 Industrial Training Institutes and 415 skill development centres (SDCs) to be developed one public private partnership mode. At present there were about 30 government-run ITIs operating in different districts. ITI Cuttack and ITI Rourkela have been upgraded under central government scheme. Similarly, another nine ITIs including Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Balasore, Talcher and Bhawanipatna have been upgraded under World Bank assisted programme.
