Gender park to come up in Kozhikode, Kerala

21 January 2012: Thantedam Gender Park, aimed at bringing women's points of view into developmental matters is to be established in Kozhikode. The project, which is expected to be a model for the whole of the country and influence gender considerations in five-year plans and annual plans in future, is an initiative of the Department of Social Welfare. The foundation stone for the park will be laid on 8 March 2012 .

The project envisages programmes for the wholesome development of women in the form of representation in various fields and financial independence. It will also focus on matters like social security for women and their contribution to culture and literature.
The park will come up on five acre and the phase I, slated to be completed within a year, is estimated to cost Rs 10 crore. The park will be implemented under the leadership of a selected woman architect.
