Israel mulls Centres of Excellence in Maharashtra

31 January 2012: Israel plans to set up three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Maharashtra, which will focus on production of citrus fruit, pomegranate and mango. The first centre will be set up in Nagpur for citrus, second one at Rahuri in Ahmednagar district for pomegranate and another at Dapoli in Konkan region for mangoes.

They are part of the 27 such centres, planned under an Indo-Israel initiative, being set up in seven states where farmers will be taught about advanced farm technologies. Each CoE will be connected to the respective state's Agriculture Ministry, agricultural universities and research centres. Applied research, and not mere theory, will be the focus of these high-tech facilities.
