New Shivaji museum to come up near airport
23 August 2010: A new monument to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is likely to be erected at the junction of the Western Express Highway and the Sahar elevated road leading to the international airport in Mumbai.
A presentation on the proposed giant statue along with a museum depicting the life and times of Shivaji Maharaj was organized by GVK, the company which is upgrading the airport, at the Sahyadri state guest house on Sunday.
The present statue of the Maratha warrior is being sought to be shifted from its present location as it is hindering the expansion of the airport building. The construction of Terminal II cannot be completed unless the statue is shifted. The deadline for the completion is June 2012.
