Overbridge at Ashok Marg

26 February 2010: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has decided to return part of the money it got deposited from allottees of Lawrence Terrace colony for a park, paving way for a foot overbridge opposite Jawahar Bhawan at Ashok Marg.

Residents of the colony had objected to LDA's move to construct a foot overbridge claiming that the authority had charged for the park. The authority intends to construct the foot overbridge at the site as there happens to be a heavy rush of traffic. It has been decided that deposits by the residents will be returned to free the area to construct a foot overbridge.

The significant decision comes days after the LDA decided to construct two more foot overbridges in the city -- one in Charbagh and one in Alambagh to ensure smooth passage for pedestrians. In fact, the authority went ahead with the constructions of the two foot overbridges some days back.

Plans are afoot to provide escalators and a ramp on the two overbridges. The foot overbridges are proposed to rise to about 20 ft. The one in Charbagh will rise from Gandhi Park and end near the Employment Exchange, where LDA plans to construct a parking.
