R&B dept to renovate guest houses into hotels
14 August 2010: The Roads and Buildings Department (R&B), Andhra Pradesh, has decided a foray into the hospitality business and convert 100 guest houses, under its control in major municipalities and corporations, into star hotels, recreation clubs and budget hotels. The department has 318 guest houses under its wings.
Since the State Tourism Department has not come forward to execute the MoU signed five months ago, the R&B department has decided to jump into the hospitality business. As per the MoU, it was proposed to establish 30 hotels in the Phase I and 50 more in the Phase II under BOT.
Now, the R&B proposes to construct 20 star hotels in the corporations like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Warangal and Tirupati. Recreation clubs will be set up in major municipalities which are considered to be educational and business hubs, while budget hotels will be set up in towns which have heavy tourism inflow.
