SRM sets up centre for psychiatry
25 January 2012: SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre has started a training centre for mental health professionals at its campus in Kattankulathur. The centre, which will consist of a team of consultants from the UK and India, is mainly for Indians appearing for Royal College degrees. The course for the clinical assessment of skills will be conducted twice a year. A specialty clinic on mental health was also inaugurated on its campus.
There are 40,835 MBBS seats in 335 medical colleges across the country. But due to stiff competition, only 29% of medical school graduates are make it to the postgraduate programmes in a clinical specialty.
