Stone laid for design factory for apparel

23 February 2010: Foundation stone is to be laid for the 1,00,000 sq ft standard design factory for apparel at the Valiya Velicham Industrial Growth Centre in Kannur district in Kerala. The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has developed 251 acre to set up the growth centre. A 50-acre industrial park exclusively dedicated for small scale units has also been developed inside the centre. Plots of 25/50 cents and 1 acre will be allotted to non polluting units across all sectors.

KSIDC has already provided basic infrastructure, including 2 km of developed internal roads, an 11 KV line for power and an effluent treatment plant. An administrative block of 1,600 sq mtrs and a multi-storeyed standard designs factory of 10,000 sq mtrs are already functioning in this growth centre.

Other units operating include Rubco Hawai Chappals, Rubco Cycle Tyres & Tubes, NKB Oil Mills, Standard Fibers & Allied Products, Maryan Apparel and Apparel Training & Designing Centre. These units together have generated employment for around 1,500 people. KSIDC envisages a full fledged apparel park in the centre on 40 acre.
