Tamil Nadu allots funds for IAMWRM
14 August 2010: The Tamil Nadu Government has earmarked Rs 52.77 crore under the Integrated Agriculture Modernisation and Water Resources Management (IAMWRM) project to carry out several works including the rehabilitation of 218 PWD tanks in Ramanathapuram district.
The allocation has been made under the Phase III of the World Bank-aided project. It will be implemented in the tanks coming under the five sub-basis such as Uthirakosamangai, Palar, Lower Gundar, Giruthamal and Vembar. As many as 18,130 ha of aycuts will be benefitted.
Tanks in Mudukulathur, Kadaladi, Kamudhi and Paramkudi, which were the rain shadow areas, will be highly benefited in the project. Anaicuts in Mandalamanickam, Gundar, Sankaradhevan and Abiramam will also be rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 2.51 crore. A sum of Rs 1.57 crore has been earmarked for the Abiramam anaicut alone.
Four divisions of PWD headed by Executive Engineers will be the implementing agencies.
The departments such as agricultural engineering, agriculture, horticulture, agricultural marketing, animal husbandry, fisheries and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, which were involved in the project, would implement small components in their respective fields.
While a sum of Rs 2.76 crore has been allotted for horticulture department, the agriculture department will spend Rs 1.72 crore for various small schemes under the IAMWRM project.
