Dams to be commissioned in Iran
13 June 2011: The Iran Government is planning to construct eighteen dams to generate electricity and to effectively control and manage water shortage.
Mohammad-Reza Attarzadeh (Bijar dam) in Gilan province, one of the dams to become operational till December 2011.The massive Karun-4 and Gotvand dams are among the major projects currently under construction. In February2011, Iran inaugurated Mamlou dam in eastern Tehran of which construction began in 2002. The huge Karun-4 and Gotvand dams are among the major projects currently under construction. Iran has constructed about 580 dams, with 137 more under construction and 546 planned.
