First Carrefour marks Middle East foray

20 December 2011: Carrefopur, the world’s second largest retailer, operated in the Middle East region through a JV with Majid Al Futtaim Group, has unveiled its first hypermarket in Fujairah in the UAE. The new Carrefour Hypermarket opened at Century Mall in the emirate. This takes the brand’s hypermarket tally in the UAE to 16, and to 41 across the Middle East.

The new store stocks thousands of items including a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, electronics and homeware items, and has a delicatessen, butchery and fishmongers. Henry Changeux, GCC country head of Carrefour said the new store has been welcomed by local residents, and will provide a boost for the economy in the surrounding area.
