Iran, Qatar to develop joint oilfield
26 February 2010: Iran and Qatar have established a technical group to supervise the development of the joint South Pars/North Dome oilfield.
The joint technical group will hold regular meetings to supervise the development of the joint field. The South Pars/North Dome field is a natural gas condensate field located on the Persian Gulf. It is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar. This gas field covers an area of 9700 sq km, of which 3700 square km (South Pars) is in Iranian territorial waters and 6000 sq km (North Dome) is in Qatari territorial waters. It is estimated to hold around 1800 trillion cubic feet (51 trillion cubic meters) of gas in place and some 50 billion barrels of condensate.
