Jordan plans social spending plans

25 August 2011: The Jordanian cabinet has endorsed a supplementary budget, adding JD584m ($824m) to the kingdom's 2011 spending plans to cover extra social payments and food subsidies to aid the country's poor. The additional sum beyond the JD6.369bn ($8.98bn) of allocated state spending was accrued expenditure to cover public sector pay hikes and a rise in food and energy subsidies.
