Kuwait citizens slams expat hospitals plan

21 November 2011: The plan to build separate hospitals for expatriates in Kuwait has drawn flak from both expatriates and citizens. The solution is to build new hospitals to accommodate more patients. The plan to build three new hospitals for expatriates was initiated by the Ministry of Health (MoH) through the Minister of Health Dr Hilal Al-Sayer with the aim of tackling the issue of overcrowding. When implemented, current public medical facilities would be left for the exclusive use of citizens.

MoH has stated that the new facilities will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology. According to an MoH official, when completed, citizens can also avail of the medical insurance policy offered there. However, there are some expats who favor separate hospitals.
