Mafraq-Ghweifat Highway PPP project to be awarded soon

14 August 2010: Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport (DoT) is evaluating bids for the 25-year concession to upgrade, finance, operate and maintain the 327-km Mafraq-Ghweifat highway.

The final bidder is expected to be named for negotiations in the third quarter of 2010. The project is the first transport-related PPP project to be undertaken in the GCC. It will involve the highway being widened to four lanes in each direction and upgraded to meet world's highest standards in highway design, safety, communications and services to users. The highway will be a strategic land link between the emirate of Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia.
