Major housing project launched in Bahrain
14 December 2011: A $64.75 million (approx Rs.344 crore) project which will provide about 5,000 homes to accommodate 25,000 people has launched in Bahrain. Housing Minister Basem Al Hamer has signed an agreement with Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Corporation chief executive Jonathan Berger and Nass Constructions chief executive Ghazi Abdulla Nass to begin the first phase of land reclamation for the East Hidd Housing Project.
It covers 227 hectares and includes commercial areas, mosques and parks. The ministry is focusing on the project to clear the waitlist of applicants, especially in the Muharraq Governorate. Work on the project is expected to start soon.
