Qatar firm plans polysilicon plant

7 October 2011: Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec), a wholly owned subsidiary of Qatar Foundation (QF), plans to construct a $1bn polysilicion plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City. This is the first major investment made by QF in the renewable energy sector. The facility will manufacture 8,000 metric tonne per annum of high-purity solar grade polysilicon and is scheduled to commence operations in the second half of 2013.
