Renewable energy production set up in Iraq
13 June 2011: Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity is to mount seven renewable energy projects with the combined capacity of 830 MW. The proposed projects include solar plants and geothermal plants located at the central, western and southern parts of the country. The largest project is of geothermal unit at Najaf with the capacity of 450 MW. The four solar plants are to be set up at Rutba, Nukhaib, Al-Ahwar and Al-Salman with the capacity of 10-30 MW. A geo thermal plant is also to be set up at Al-Kifil with the capacity of 300MW.
