Saudi Haramain rail project phase II links with high-speed train system
3 November 2011: The phase II of the Haramain Railway project linking the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah as well as Jeddah and Rabigh with a high-speed train system is to cost SR30.8bn. The phase II includes the importing and installation of rail tracks, signal and communication systems, electric systems and import of trains as well as maintenance. The Al-Shoula consortium will carry out operation and maintenance of the railway for 12 years. The project will be ready by 2014.
