Saudi to provide funds for Jordan highway
22 December 2011: Saudi Arabia is expected to provide Jordan with a JD160m grant to renovate the 150-kilometre highway that links the kingdom with the Gulf. The ministry prepared studies and designs for the new road, which will be fully lit and include four lanes on each side separated by a concrete median.
The ministry has carried out occasional maintenance on the road, but now it will be able to rebuild it entirely and make it one of the safest roads in the country. The road is a major corridor for trade and transportation in addition to passenger traffic, linking Jordan with several destinations including Iraq and Arab Gulf countries through Saudi Arabia.
