Bangladesh FDI falls to 36 per cent
28 July 2010: Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bangladesh dipped by 36 percent in 2009 and may see no dramatic improvement, according to the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The UNCTAD blames it on the bureaucratic red tape that continues to act as the biggest barrier in attracting overseas funds. According to the report, the FDI declined in Bangladesh by $386 million to reach $700.16 million in 2009 from $1.08 billon in 2008.
