Central Provincial Council of Sri Lanka plans to set up domestic airport in Kundasale
12 October 2011: The Central Provincial Council of Sri Lanka is exploring the possibility of constructing the domestic airport proposed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the Kundasale area.
The domestic airport will be set up in the Kandy District and called on the Chief Minister of the Central PC to allocate a necessary land for the project.
Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake will locate a suitable land for the project and was therefore looking at Kundasale as an option. The land will have to be at least 60 yards in order to accommodate the airstrip.
