Ceylon Steel Corporation to commission bar mill soon

12 October 2011: Sri Lanka's biggest steel maker Ceylon Steel Corporation will commission a new steel bar mill next month under an $ 80 million (approx Rs 396 crore) expansion and diversification plan to meet surging post-war demand.

The three-year expansion will see the creation of a 'steel village' at its 164-acre site in Oruwela, Athugiriya, south of Colombo, and annual production capacity increased to 250,000 tonne from 100,000 tonne.The company will diversify its product range from bars to galvanised wire, pipes, nails and other steel products needed by the construction industry, Lokuwithana told Vimasuma.com, our sister news website. The new bar mill is equipped with an online facility to control trouble-shooting from its mother company in Italy.
