Colombo to get new city bus service

3 February 2012: The capital city of Sri Lanka will get a new luxury city bus service which will commence next month on six routes identified as the main corridors. The bus service, equipped with buses having modern facilities, is to be launched initially to and from Colombo city on the High Level and Galle Roads.

The routes are Moratuwa-Pettah, Kesbewa-Pettah, Negombo-Pettah, Gampaha-Pettah, Kaduwela-Fort (via Malabe) and Homagama-Pettah. Micro Bus Company will be the first to begin operations under the new luxury service. The Company has already imported eight low-floor air-conditioned buses for the service. They can carry around 115 people including 45 seated passengers. Initial operations will be on Negombo-Moratuwa route via Pettah. The objective of the city bus service is to encourage more people who are at present using individual vehicles to opt for public transportation.
