Construction work of Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex accelerated

9 August 2011: The construction work of the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex is accelerated to make the place ready for the 37th national sports festival.

The national sports festival in 2011is scheduled to be held on September 7, 8 and 9 in the new sports complex constructed in the Southwestern edge of Colombo district. The first stage of this stadium was declared to be opened in January 2012. The hostels are being constructed with all modern facilities, and the swimming pool will be up to international standards, the government says.

The sports complex is being constructed in a land area of 126 acres and 51 acres will cover sports ground and buildings while the remaining 75 acres will be used for the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and medicinal herbs under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture.
