Dhaka, Delhi sign MoU

8 December 2010: The Bangladesh Government has signed an MoU with the Union Government of India for transportation of Over Dimensional Cargos (ODCs) through river and road routes from Raimongal of India to Tripura via Ashuganj port and Akhaura of Bangladesh.

Some 96 ODCs will be transported to the Indian State of Tripura for setting up a power plant at Palatana.

Bangladesh has agreed to provide the transit for transportation of the ODCs during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in January in 2010.

India will construct 39 kms road from Ashuganj port to Akhaura at a cost of Tk 25.50 crore and also bear the cost of repair and maintenance. The road will be 18-meter wide. The construction of the road will start in December 2010 and it would take one year to complete.
