ECNEC approves development projects
13 May 2011: The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) of Bangladesh, on 10 May 2011, approved four development projects involving Tk 2645 crore that include introduction of 3G Technology and expansion of 2.5G Network project.
Of the total amount, the government will provide Tk 1168 crore while Tk 1477 crore will come as project assistance. The other projects approved in the meeting include setting up Faridpur Medical College and Hospital, development of 16 roads in Gopalganj district (388 crore) and Gopalganj (Borashi)-Boroni- Singipara (Tungipara) road development project to ensure safe and developed communication of Tungipara upazila with Gopalganj district headquarters (41 crore).
Overall network of Teletalk will be expanded and subscribers will get more services including tele-medicine service. The total cost of the project is Tk 1901 crore, of which Tk 424 crore will come from the government while the rest Tk 1171 crore will come from China as project assistance.
The Faridpur Medical College and Hospital project will cost Tk 315 crore, which will be funded by the government. The project will be implemented by December 2013. The project aims to upgrade the existing 250-bed Faridpur Medical College Hospital to 500 beds. The project objectives include setting up a permanent building for the medical college, providing modern healthcare services to the patients, increasing hospital beds as well as creating employment opportunities for the doctors, nurses, technologists and people involved in other professions.
