First floating restaurant opens in Sri Lanka
22 December 2011: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the first floating restaurant in the country . The floating restaurant in the Beira Lake in Colombo named as the "Pontoon North 8" has been launched under the sponsorship of Cinnamon Lake Side Hotel.
The 70 ft long restaurant was built at a cost of Rs 10 crore (Rs 100 million ). It can accommodate 100 persons.
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Civil Aviation Service Minister Priyankara Jayaratne, MP Sajin Vas Gunawardena, and Chairman of John Keells, Susantha Ratnayake were also present at the event.
